Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 cup walnut halves/pieces (can also use pecans)
- 1/4 cup white granulated sugar (not coarse sugar)
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions
- Heat skillet: Heat a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add 1 cup walnuts, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1 Tbsp unsalted butter to the skillet.
- Melt sugar and coat nuts: Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. As the sugar starts to melt, continue stirring constantly until all the sugar is fully melted and the walnuts are evenly coated with the sugary mixture.
- Transfer and separate nuts: Immediately pour the coated walnuts onto a sheet of parchment paper. Quickly separate the nuts using two spatulas to prevent them from sticking together in a clump.
- Allow to harden: Let the coated walnuts sit for 5-7 minutes until the sugary coating hardens. Once hardened, transfer to a bowl and enjoy!
Notes
- Use white granulated sugar, not coarse sugar, for best results.
- Stir frequently during cooking to prevent burning of sugar and nuts.
- Separate nuts quickly after coating to avoid clumping.
- Can substitute walnuts with pecans if desired.
- Store candied walnuts in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness.
