Description

This classic 7-Layer Dip is a vibrant and colorful appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. Layers of seasoned refried beans, creamy guacamole, zesty sour cream, shredded cheese, fresh tomatoes, black olives, green onions, and cilantro come together for a delicious and crowd-pleasing dip that pairs perfectly with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Beans Layer

  • 1 16-oz can refried beans
  • 3 Tbsp taco seasoning (homemade or 1 oz packet, divided)

Guacamole Layer

  • 2-3 cups guacamole (homemade or storebought)

Sour Cream Layer

  • 2 cups sour cream

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded Mexican-style cheese (or cheddar cheese)
  • 4 Roma tomatoes, diced (about 2 cups)
  • ½ to 1 cup sliced black olives (2-4 oz, or to preference)
  • ½ bunch green onions, finely chopped (about ¼ cup)
  • ½ small bunch cilantro, finely chopped (about ¼ cup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Beans Layer: Heat the refried beans in a saucepan or microwave until warm and soft for easier spreading. Stir in half of the taco seasoning to evenly season the beans. Spread the seasoned beans evenly into the bottom of a 9×13 glass casserole dish.
  2. Add Guacamole Layer: Evenly spread 2 to 3 cups of guacamole over the layer of refried beans in the dish, creating a smooth layer for the next ingredient.
  3. Prepare Sour Cream Layer: In a small bowl, mix the sour cream with the remaining half of the taco seasoning to infuse a zesty flavor. Spread this seasoned sour cream layer gently over the guacamole.
  4. Add Cheese and Vegetable Toppings: Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded Mexican-style cheese evenly over the sour cream layer. Then, top with diced Roma tomatoes, sliced black olives, finely chopped green onions, and chopped cilantro. Arrange the toppings evenly for visual appeal and taste balance.
  5. Serve: Serve the 7-layer dip chilled or at room temperature with tortilla chips for dipping. This dip is ideal for parties, game days, and casual gatherings.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of taco seasoning to taste depending on preferred spice levels.
  • For extra flavor, use homemade guacamole or add lime juice and garlic to storebought guacamole.
  • Make the dip a few hours ahead and refrigerate to allow the flavors to meld.
  • The dip does not require cooking aside from warming the beans.
  • Serve with fresh tortilla chips or vegetable sticks for a lighter option.
