Sauce Ingredients
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/3 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)
Instructions
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, cayenne pepper, and brown sugar until well combined.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Mix the ketchup, white vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce into the dry ingredient mixture, stirring until smooth.
- Simmer the Sauce: Pour the mixture into a small saucepan and heat on low. Let it simmer gently for 15 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning and ensure flavors meld.
- Prepare Cornstarch Slurry: In a separate small bowl, combine the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water, mixing until smooth to create a slurry.
- Thicken the Sauce: Slowly add the cornstarch slurry to the simmering sauce, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat once the sauce has thickened. Allow it to cool to room temperature before serving or storing.
Notes
- For best flavor, refrigerate the sauce for several hours before serving to allow the flavors to fully develop.
- This sauce keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Adjust cayenne pepper to taste depending on preferred spice level.
- Use as a dipping sauce for fries, a spread for sandwiches, or a condiment for burgers.
