Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 1 1/2 cups M&M’s (Easter-themed)
- 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the large egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, then mix until smooth and fully incorporated.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed or by hand until just combined, taking care not to overmix.
- Incorporate M&M’s and Chocolate Chips: Stir in the Easter-themed M&M’s and semi-sweet chocolate chips by hand, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Portion Dough: Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Decorate Tops: Lightly press a few extra M&M’s and chocolate chips on top of each dough ball for a more festive look.
- Bake: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
- Cool: Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For best results, use room temperature butter to help cream with the sugars properly.
- Do not overmix the flour into the wet ingredients to keep cookies tender.
- Spacing dough balls properly on the baking sheet ensures even baking and cookie shape.
- Cooling cookies on the baking sheet first allows them to firm up and prevents breaking.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
