Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 5 large Honeycrisp apples
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
Topping
- 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
- 1/4 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the crumble.
- Prepare Apples: Halve and core all apples. Thinly slice four of the apples and grate the remaining one using a box grater. Place all the prepared apples in a 3-quart baking dish (approximately 9×13 inches). Toss them with cinnamon, vanilla extract, cornstarch, nutmeg, salt, and maple syrup until evenly coated.
- Mix Topping: In a mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, almond flour, finely chopped walnuts, cinnamon, maple syrup, and melted butter. Stir well until the mixture is evenly blended and crumbly.
- Assemble Crumble: Evenly sprinkle the oat topping mixture over the coated apples in the baking dish, covering them completely.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the apple crumble from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream, ice cream, or a dollop of Greek yogurt for extra richness.
Notes
- Choose Honeycrisp apples for their sweet-tart flavor and firm texture.
- If desired, adjust sweeteners to taste by increasing or decreasing maple syrup quantity.
- For a nut-free version, omit walnuts and replace almond flour with additional oats or gluten-free flour.
- Letting the crumble cool slightly helps it set and enhances flavors before serving.
- Serving with Greek yogurt or ice cream adds a creamy contrast to the crunchy and fruity dish.
