Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Seasoning
- 1 pound Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast (Cut into small pieces or shredded)
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
- Salt and Pepper (To taste)
Vegetables
- 1 medium Onion (Finely chopped)
- 1 cup Diced Bell Peppers (Mix of colors preferred)
- 3 cloves Garlic (Minced)
Additional Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (For sautéing)
- ¼ cup Chopped Fresh Cilantro (For garnish and mixing)
- 1 Ripe Avocado (Sliced for topping)
- 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Optional, such as Monterey Jack or cheddar)
- 4-6 large Soft Tortillas (Flour tortillas preferred)
Instructions
- Season the chicken: Dice the chicken breast into small pieces and season with salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, and chili powder, ensuring the spices are evenly distributed for full flavor.
- Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the seasoned chicken pieces and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.
- Sauté the vegetables: Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the finely chopped onion and diced bell peppers. Sauté them for 4-5 minutes until they soften and become fragrant.
- Add the garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute to release its aroma without burning.
- Combine chicken and vegetables: Return the chicken to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir and cook together for 2-3 minutes to blend the flavors well.
Notes
- You can substitute the chicken breast with shredded rotisserie chicken for a quicker preparation.
- For extra heat, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or hot sauce while seasoning the chicken.
- The cheese is optional—feel free to omit it for a lighter, dairy-free version.
- Warm tortillas slightly before assembling the tortas to make them more pliable.
- Garnish with additional fresh cilantro or a squeeze of lime juice for enhanced freshness.
