Ingredients
Scale
Ice Cream Base
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure peppermint extract
- 2–3 drops green food coloring (optional)
Add-Ins
- 1 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips or finely chopped dark chocolate
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved. Stir in the peppermint extract and green food coloring, if using, until evenly combined. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.
- Churn the Ice Cream: Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically about 20–25 minutes. During the last few minutes of churning, add the chocolate chips and allow them to distribute evenly throughout the ice cream.
- Freeze to Firmness: Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to an airtight container. Freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm and scoopable. Serve cold and enjoy!
Notes
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use a combination of milk and dark chocolate chunks instead of just semisweet chips.
- You can omit the green food coloring for a natural appearance without affecting the flavor.
- For a fresh herbal twist, steep fresh mint leaves in the milk before mixing for an infused peppermint flavor.
