Description

This Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte is a cozy, delicious fall favorite made from scratch using real pumpkin puree and warm spices. Sweetened with cane sugar and topped with frothy milk and whipped cream, this comforting coffee drink brings the perfect blend of autumn flavors right to your cup.

Ingredients

Scale

Pumpkin Sauce

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup cane sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • â…› teaspoon ground ginger

Latte

  • ½ cup 1% or 2% milk
  • ½ cup espresso or very strong coffee
  • Whipped topping (for garnish)
  • Ground cinnamon (for garnish, optional)
  • Ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the espresso: Brew the espresso or very strong coffee according to the package instructions to create a rich base for your latte.
  2. Make the pumpkin sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine pumpkin puree, cane sugar, water, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and ground ginger. Simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to blend the flavors and thicken the sauce slightly.
  3. Mix espresso and pumpkin sauce: Add one tablespoon of the warm pumpkin sauce to your favorite mug, then pour in the freshly brewed espresso. Stir to combine the flavors evenly.
  4. Froth and warm the milk: Pour ½ cup cold milk into a microwavable jar and screw the lid on tightly. Shake vigorously until the milk doubles in size and becomes frothy, about 30 seconds. Remove the lid and microwave the jar for 30 seconds to heat the milk and stabilize the froth, watching carefully to prevent overflow.
  5. Assemble the latte: Gently pour the frothed milk over the espresso and pumpkin mixture, swirling lightly to combine. Top your latte with whipped topping and sprinkle ground nutmeg—and ground cinnamon if desired—for a festive finish.

Notes

  • Use canned pumpkin puree for convenience or homemade pumpkin puree if preferred.
  • Adjust the sugar amount depending on your sweetness preference.
  • Strong brewed coffee can be substituted for espresso if needed, but espresso provides the best flavor intensity.
  • Frothing milk can also be done with a handheld frother or steam wand if available.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond, oat, or soy milk, and use a suitable whipped topping.
