Description

This Mexican White Cheese Dip Recipe is a creamy and flavorful appetizer that will be the star of any party. Made with a blend of white American and Monterey Jack cheeses, this queso dip has a hint of spice from jalapeños and a perfect balance of seasonings. Serve it warm with tortilla chips for a crowd-pleasing snack!

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and finely diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 8 oz white American cheese, shredded or cubed
  • 4 oz Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and jalapeño and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  2. Add Seasonings: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and salt.
  3. Thicken Sauce: Whisk milk and cornstarch in a bowl, then pour into the saucepan. Cook until slightly thickened, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Melt Cheeses: Reduce heat, add American and Monterey Jack cheeses gradually, stirring until melted and smooth.
  5. Adjust Consistency: If too thick, add milk. Stir in cilantro if desired. Serve warm with chips.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, leave jalapeño seeds or add cayenne.
  • White American cheese from the deli counter melts best.
  • Keep warm in a slow cooker on low for parties.
