Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- ½ cup onion, chopped
Meat & Cheese
- 1 pound boneless rib-eye steak, sliced or chopped
- 6 slices provolone cheese
Other Ingredients
- 1 ½ tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Oil for frying (about 2 cups, enough for deep frying)
Instructions
- Sauté vegetables: In a large pan over medium heat, melt half the butter. Add the chopped green bell pepper and onion. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
- Prepare steak filling: Remove the sautéed veggies from the pan and set aside. Melt the remaining butter in the same pan. Add the rib-eye steak, seasoned with salt and pepper, and cook for 3-4 minutes until the steak is browned and cooked through.
- Combine: Return the cooked vegetables to the pan with the steak. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly, allowing the flavors to meld for about a minute. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Assemble rolls: On a clean surface, lay out each egg roll wrapper. Place half a slice of provolone cheese in the center of each wrapper, then spoon 2-3 tablespoons of the steak and vegetable filling on top of the cheese. Fold the wrappers according to package directions, sealing the edges to form egg rolls.
- Fry: Heat oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium heat until shimmering and hot. Carefully add the egg rolls in batches, frying each for 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove and drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute rib-eye steak with sirloin or flank steak if preferred.
- Use a thermometer to heat oil to about 350°F (175°C) for optimal frying.
- Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- Serve these egg rolls with ketchup, mustard, or a spicy dipping sauce for added flavor.
- Leftover filling can be used as a sandwich filling or served over rice.
