Description

Sausage French Toast Roll-Ups are a delicious and fun twist on traditional breakfast French toast. These roll-ups combine savory breakfast sausage wrapped in soft, cinnamon-spiced bread, then cooked to a golden brown perfection. Perfect for a hearty breakfast or brunch, they are quick to prepare and sure to please the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

Roll-Ups

  • 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
  • 8 breakfast sausage links

Egg Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: Cook the breakfast sausage links according to the package instructions, ensuring they are fully cooked through. Set them aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the bread: Remove the crusts from each slice of bread. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice evenly to make it pliable for rolling.
  3. Mix the egg batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined to create a flavorful custard mixture.
  4. Assemble the roll-ups: Take each flattened bread slice and roll it tightly around a cooked sausage link. Secure with a toothpick if necessary to keep the roll intact during cooking.
  5. Cook the roll-ups: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Dip each bread roll-up into the egg mixture, coating all sides, then place in the skillet. Cook, turning occasionally, until each side is golden brown and the bread is cooked through.
  6. Serve: Remove the roll-ups from the skillet and serve them warm. Optionally, top with syrup, powdered sugar, or your favorite breakfast toppings.

Notes

  • You can use white or whole wheat bread depending on your preference.
  • Removing the crusts and flattening the bread helps to roll the sausage more easily.
  • Be careful while cooking to keep the roll-ups intact; securing with a toothpick may help.
  • Serve with maple syrup, honey, or fresh fruit for a complete breakfast.
  • For a lower-fat version, use turkey sausage and cooking spray instead of butter.
