Description

A comforting and classic Tater Tot Casserole made with seasoned ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, green beans, and topped with crispy tater tots and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup sweet onion, diced
  • 1 14.5 ounce can green beans (or peas), drained

Other Ingredients

  • 16 ounce bag of frozen tater tots
  • 1 10.75 ounce can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook the beef and onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook and stir the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink, about 7 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Mix in soup and green beans: Stir the can of condensed cream of mushroom soup and the drained green beans into the cooked ground beef mixture until well combined.
  4. Assemble the casserole: Pour the beef mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer the frozen tater tots evenly on top, and then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots, or you can place the cheese on top of the beef mixture before adding the tater tots, according to your preference.
  5. Bake the casserole: Place the assembled dish in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes, until the tater tots are golden brown and the casserole is heated through.

Notes

  • You can substitute green beans with peas if preferred.
  • For extra crispiness, broil the casserole for 2-3 minutes after baking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • Use reduced-fat cheese or ground turkey to lighten the dish.
  • Make sure to drain excess grease after cooking the ground beef for a less greasy casserole.
  • This casserole can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
