For the Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
For the Topping:
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 2/3 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease.
- Make the Crust: Mix 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 cup softened butter until crumbly. Press into the pan and bake for 10 minutes.
- Add Pecans: Sprinkle chopped pecans over the hot crust.
- Prepare the Caramel: Melt 2/3 cup butter, brown sugar, and salt in a saucepan. Boil gently, then remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and pour over the pecans.
- Bake Again: Bake for 15–18 minutes until bubbly.
- Add Chocolate: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot bars, let melt, then spread evenly.
- Cool and Serve: Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- You can use walnuts instead of pecans for a variation.
- For a salty-sweet twist, top with flaky sea salt after spreading the chocolate.
