Description

This Zesty Banana Pepper Hot Sauce is a tangy and mildly spicy condiment, perfect for adding a flavorful kick to your meals. Made with fresh banana peppers, garlic, vinegar, and a touch of brown sugar, this vibrant sauce offers a balanced heat and a hint of sweetness. Ideal for drizzling on sandwiches, tacos, grilled meats, or as a dipping sauce, it’s easy to prepare and keeps well refrigerated.

Ingredients

Scale

Banana Pepper Base

  • 10 banana peppers (about 1 cup chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

Liquid and Seasonings

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing garlic)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peppers: Wash the banana peppers thoroughly under cool running water. Remove the stems and seeds to reduce the heat intensity, then chop the peppers into smaller pieces for cooking.
  2. Sauté Garlic: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, taking care not to burn it.
  3. Add Ingredients: To the saucepan, add the chopped banana peppers, white vinegar, water, salt, and brown sugar. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Simmer the Sauce: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Let it cook uncovered for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peppers become tender and the flavors meld together.
  5. Blend: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Transfer it to a blender and blend until smooth or leave it slightly chunky according to your preference.
  6. Bottle and Store: Pour the blended sauce into sterilized bottles or jars and seal tightly. Store the hot sauce in the refrigerator for best freshness and flavor. Use within 2-3 weeks.

Notes

  • Removing seeds reduces the heat, but keep some if you prefer a spicier sauce.
  • Adjust the amount of brown sugar to balance the acidity or heat to your liking.
  • Use white vinegar for a sharp tang, or substitute with apple cider vinegar for a milder flavor.
  • Ensure bottles or jars are sterilized to extend shelf life and prevent spoilage.
  • Shake well before each use as separation may occur.
